Anahad: Ohla la the Paris shows

My relationship with fashion started long, long time ago, when I was around 8 and I was designing/creating clothes for my dolls. And we are talking intensive fabric scraps picking, studying and understanding fabrics, colors, patterns, well, all that our 8 year old brain could handle. It was my friend Mirela and I. Fashion obsessed. We continued until (I know, so unorthodox) we were about 14. But things, of course, changed a bit, meaning we did start creating looks for ourselves. It was the communist times when you couldn't find good clothes for the life of you, so fashion became my "way out", my chosen form of expression. By my 17th birthday, in the middle of the 80s, I was making all my outfits, if not from scratch, at least modifying anything I had my hand on. I've always had incredible hand skills but being a seamstress wasn't my dream. I wanted to be a fashion designer. I never did. Long story. But I never stopped being interested in it. (We're all using clothes since the stone age... might as well chose what fits you well.)

I could've easily been a fashion stylist. But I chose another side of design that still makes me very happy indeed, graphic design. I now design jewelry... and loving it.

Well, needless to say I UNDERSTAND. I understand fashion as art, I understand well designed clothes. I've never been a label whore, I don't need to. I admire talented designers and mainly because I can't afford it I look at their pieces as art.

I think personal style is something you have or you don't. Just wearing designer clothes straight from the runway would never ever make you stylish. I love vintage clothing too. I started a collection of vintage handbags... I am still mesmerized by the craftsmanship of the past. Amazing.

So, for obvious reasons the Paris shows are the ones to always look for. This is where big designers get to play. Galliano shines on his eternal playground...
